Unwelcome: A Metaphysical Suicide

To Resist a Regime of Truth

How did we happen? Look at your hands. We happened in a sweep. Like lightning. How else? Nothing this complex could emerge gradually. There must have been a leap. How does motion turn to generation? Where does complexity come from? The world could have been entirely self-sufficient. Why couldn’t simple vectors determine the entire trajectory of the world’s expansion? How can gravitational pull explain microbial life?

A living organism is a universe that has folded upon itself and brought forth a crystalline replica of its own image. We are surrounded by immanent deities; look no further than the material world. A living body contains the secrets of the universe. The solids, the liquid, the gas. Fire, air, water, earth; blood, bile, bone and oxygen. We’re made of neural stars, cancerous black holes and viral asteroids.

Life testifies to the Heraclitean precept: The nature of the Universe is fluid, heterogeneous and in constant motion. The world gets reborn within itself through biological life; it rejects itself, comes to terms with itself, merges with itself and destroys itself once again. The cosmological drama unfolds each time within the immediate lifeworld. A metaphysical amnesia where we forget that we are only an “I” and deploy ourselves across different locations within ourselves, inventing a “beginning” and devising an “end”. Life is the result of spiritual combat between the Universe and herself.

So why isn’t energy constant? Why is entropy always rising? Or did I get that wrong? Energy is constant and entropy is rising you say? Thank you scientist, for another pedantic, trivial correction. I completely forgot that we can now “calculate entropy!” How can I not laugh at this beautiful statement? When the level of human audacity and hybris reaches a new height, I always get too amazed, too impressed and shocked to get angry. I have to take an aesthetic turn and call it beautiful.

So what about the entropy of entropy then? What about psychological entropy? The moment when you cannot calculate, when you procrastinate, when your wife’s on her periods, when you actually have to deal with the universe? Oh I see, I don’t understand the meaning of the word. What I don’t understand is the meaning of your compartmentalized world, where you force nature to speak the truth about itself through what you call a method. The laboratory is a political instrument used to interrogate matter, it is the site of veridiction for a construct. When I say: Entropy prevents the total energy of the universe from remaining constant, I am not attempting to dabble in physics, I am looking to overthrow a regime of truth!

So what does politics have to do with the miracle at our finger-tips? Simple — it wants to rationalize it, to rationalize it away. And the political weapon of choice is a new scientific theocracy, an epistemic mode of governance administering human life in the name of “objective truth” or a biological epidemic. All real philosophical questions will always and necessarily produce resistance to the biopolitical order of things. That is precisely what the mystery of life has to do with politics. The very condition for posing the question implies the obliteration of the political. And especially — of the economic.
